Destination Canada Australia has launched a new guide urging Australian travel advisors to move beyond the traditional single-season Canadian holiday.

Canada: Slow Down. Stay Longer. Go Further. was developed by the destination’s Australian Strategic Advisory Group, drawing on the experience of senior local travel industry leaders. It aims to give advisors practical ideas to sell Canada year-round, with longer stays and visits to lesser-known regions.

Destination Canada says that while each season offers a different experience, the country is often sold as a single proposition built around one season and a familiar set of icons.

“Canada isn’t a one-experience or one-season destination,” Destination Canada Australia managing director Julie King said. “It is unique in its offering from coast to coast to coast, across the seasons and that gives travel advisors an extraordinary opportunity to find the Canadian experience that is right for every client to visit time and time again.”

She said the guide was designed to prompt a different conversation with clients.

“Could they stay another two or three nights? Could they add somewhere unexpected to an itinerary they already love or add a local experience?

“Those conversations can create more meaningful journeys for travellers, greater value for advisors and more lasting benefits for the communities that visitors experience along the way,” King added.

The guide covers five areas

  • positioning Canada as four distinct seasonal experiences rather than a peak and an “off season”;
  • showing how one or two extra days can open up lesser-known regions while adding value for client and advisor;
  • complementing popular locations with experiences across Canada’s diverse regions;
  • matching travellers to the right season and encouraging repeat visits in another; and
  • practical selling tools to overcome common objections and support multi-trip strategies.

Destination Canada says the guide supports its ambition to grow tourism in ways that benefit travellers and communities, including through greater year-round and regional dispersal of visitors.

Alongside the guide, it has opened a Partnership Pledge to advisors, agency owners, wholesalers, operators, media, cruise lines and the wider industry. Signatories gain access to additional Destination Canada insights, training and exclusive industry events, and can carry the Together for Impact emblem.
