Adventure World is promoting a range of polar bear itineraries across Canada and Norway to coincide with Polar Bear Week, which run this week from from 1 to 7 November.

The annual awareness week was founded by Polar Bears International. It falls during the peak viewing season in Churchill, Manitoba, when the bears wait for sea ice to form on Hudson Bay so they can resume hunting seals.

Adventure World said its tailor-made journeys are led by local naturalists and expedition teams, and sit within its Travel with Purpose approach to sustainable travel.

Adventure World head of product Anna Burgdorf said seeing wildlife in its natural habitat could change the way travellers understand a destination, describing it as “one of the most powerful experiences you can have”.

“With experienced local guides and expedition teams, these journeys offer more than the possibility of a polar bear sighting,” Burgdorf said. “They introduce travellers to the wider ecosystem, the people who call these places home and the challenges facing wildlife.”

For example the Classic Churchill Polar Bear Adventure last six days and visits the Churchill Wildlife Management Area by Tundra Buggy, with Arctic foxes and snowy owls also possible sightings.

Meanwhile the seven day Belugas, Bears & Blooms itinerary departs in July and August. Guests travel the Churchill River by boat to see beluga whales and explore the Hudson Bay tundra by Tundra Buggy, with polar bears also possible.

Finally, a standout trip for Polar Bear enthusiasts is the 13 day Expedition to Svalbard, which offers an expedition cruise through Norway’s High Arctic with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions. Departing between April and June, it includes naturalist guides and a National Geographic photography expert.
