One of Queensland’s longest-running running events has unveiled a new identity, with the Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon officially rebranded as the Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon in a bid to attract more domestic and international visitors.

City of Moreton Bay and Tourism and Events Moreton Bay announced the new name and logo on Friday (30 October), marking the latest step in the event’s evolution into a major destination marathon.

The rebrand follows a record-breaking 40th anniversary event in July, which attracted 6,000 runners from 12 countries and every Australian state and territory.

This year also marked the first time the full marathon was open to the public, following an invitation-only debut in 2025.

City of Moreton Bay mayor Peter Flannery said the new identity would help showcase the destination to a wider audience.

“For 40 years, Jetty 2 Jetty has brought people together to celebrate fitness, community and our incredible waterfront. Adding Moreton Bay to the name gives this iconic event an identity that matches the destination it showcases,” Flannery said.

“As the marathon continues to grow, the City of Moreton Bay name will put this event in front of new audiences and strengthen our reputation as a place to visit, explore and experience.”

He added that the rebrand would help position the region ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

International ambitions for Moreton Bay

The event’s growing international profile has already seen the City of Moreton Bay establish sporting and tourism connections with Japan and New Zealand.

In Japan, the event has formed a sister marathon relationship with the Shizuoka Marathon, one of the first tourism outcomes of a Memorandum of Understanding between Moreton Bay and Shizuoka City.

Tourism and Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the new identity would strengthen the region’s appeal as a running tourism destination.

“Destination marathons are built on a strong sense of place. Runners travel for the course, the scenery and the story, and now the name tells them exactly where that story happens,” Edwards said.

“With a waterfront course, 40 years of heritage and growing international partnerships, the Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon is ready to compete with the best destination events in the country.”

Edwards said the event also presented opportunities for the local visitor economy.

“A name that carries our City takes Moreton Bay to the world and brings visitors here to stay, dine and explore, which is a real win for local operators and businesses.”

Marathon delivers tourism boost

First held in 1986 by Moreton Bay Road Runners, who remain involved in the event, Jetty 2 Jetty takes participants along the Moreton Bay foreshore through Clontarf, Redcliffe, Woody Point and Scarborough.

The event offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 10km wheelchair race, 5km and 3km distances.

According to organisers, the 2026 event attracted an estimated 9,462 participants and supporters, generating approximately 1,830 visitor nights and supporting local accommodation providers, restaurants, cafes and other businesses.

The 2027 Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon will take place on 18 July 2027, with registrations opening on 2 November 2026.
