Viking has taken delivery of its newest European river ship, Viking Haki, as the cruise line pushes ahead with plans to add 17 more river vessels to its fleet by 2028.

The 190-guest Viking Haki joins the company’s fleet of Viking Longships and will operate itineraries along Europe’s Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.

The vessel accommodates 190 passengers across 95 staterooms and features Viking’s signature Scandinavian design, including its patented square bow, which allows for three full decks.

Other features include the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace and an asymmetric corridor layout designed to accommodate two-room suites.

Viking president and chief executive officer Leah Talactac welcomed the latest addition to the fleet.

“Our river voyages offer an ideal way to explore Europe, bringing guests closer to the history, culture and traditions of the destinations they visit,” Talactac said.

“We are pleased to welcome the elegant Viking Haki to our fleet and to offer even more guests the opportunity to discover these remarkable destinations in Viking comfort.”

New ship to sail popular European itineraries

Viking Haki will operate several of the cruise line’s established European itineraries, including Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Danube Waltz and Tulips & Windmills.

The ship will also feature on Viking’s Christmas Market sailings, offering guests the opportunity to explore European destinations during the festive season.

Viking plans 17 more river ships by 2028

The delivery comes as Viking continues an ambitious fleet expansion across its river, ocean and expedition cruise operations.

According to its committed orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of another 17 river ships by 2028, bringing its river fleet to 114 vessels.

Viking also has 11 additional ocean ships scheduled for delivery by 2032 and two expedition ships expected by 2031.

The expansion will bring Viking’s combined ocean and expedition fleet to 28 ships by 2032, as the company continues to invest in its global cruise operations.
