TransNusa has launched flights between Melbourne and Bali, adding more than 70,000 seats a year to one of Melbourne Airport’s most competitive international routes.

The Indonesian carrier’s inaugural service touched down in Melbourne this morning, using a 174-seat Airbus A320 four times a week. Flights will increase to daily from 16 November.

The schedule is built around maximising holiday time, with an early morning departure from Melbourne arriving in Bali in time for lunch, and a late evening return allowing travellers a full day in Bali before flying home.

TransNusa joins five other carriers on Melbourne–Denpasar, which averages eight flights a day in each direction. Melbourne Airport said the route has grown by more than 35 per cent since 2019 and is now one of its largest international markets.

Melbourne Airport chief of aviation Jim Parashos said TransNusa’s onward network from Denpasar would give travellers more of Indonesia to explore.

“Bali remains the number one destination for Australians, but there’s a lot more to Indonesia beyond Bali, with TransNusa’s network connecting passengers with onward destinations including the dive and reef islands of Wakatobi and Manado, Lombok and Komodo Island just to name a few,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to welcome TransNusa to Melbourne’s growing international family, with more than 40 carriers giving travellers more choice and affordability than ever.”

TransNusa Group chief executive officer Datuk Bernard Francis said the airline was proud to become part of the Melbourne Airport family.

“TransNusa is proud to become part of the Melbourne Airport family to connect these two vibrant cities, offering travellers a reliable, value-driven alternative on one of the region’s most popular travel corridors,” he said.

He added the airline was also excited to offer “Beyond Bali” island holidays, including connections to destinations such as Phuket and Singapore.
