Flight Centre Travel Group has bought back its own shares on every trading day so far in September, as it continues its $200 million buyback program.
The company has bought back close to one million shares since the beginning of the month, with daily ASX filings showing purchases continuing throughout September.
On 14 September alone, Flight Centre bought another 110,000 shares for $1.19 million, paying between $10.80 and $10.95 per share. The purchase took the total number acquired under its current buyback program to more than 2.52 million as of 14 September.
Flight Centre shares closed at $10.87 on Tuesday (15 September), after trading above $13 in August.
The sustained buying comes three months after Flight Centre announced a second on-market buyback of up to $200 million, shortly after completing its previous $200 million program.
At the time, CEO and founder Graham ‘Skroo’ Turner said the decision reflected the board’s confidence in the company’s recovery and outlook, adding that it “clearly signals that we see our shares as undervalued at current levels.”
The buyback is intended to reduce the number of shares on issue, support earnings-per-share growth and offset potential dilution associated with Flight Centre’s convertible notes.
Recent purchases have also been made at lower prices than earlier in the program. Flight Centre paid as much as $12.55 a share on 8 July, compared with a high of $10.95 for shares purchased on 14 September.
The current buyback began on 1 July and can run until 17 June 2027.
