EgyptAir is Sydney Airport’s newest airline, with plans to launch a new service connecting Cairo, Singapore and Sydney from 2027 – creating a new air link between Australia and Egypt.

The proposed service will be the first direct link between Sydney and Cairo via Singapore, with Egypt Sydney Airport’s largest unserved market in Africa for Australian travellers.

The service will provide passengers with convenient access to Cairo, one of the world’s oldest and most culturally significant cities, as well as onward connections across Egypt, Africa, Europe and the Middle East through EgyptAir’s extensive network.

The new airline brings Sydney Airport to a record 54 airlines, reinforcing its position as Australia’s leading international gateway. The new service will also strengthen connections between Australia and Egypt, with New South Wales home to the country’s largest Egyptian community – more than 21,000 people.

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said the partnership was a major milestone for the airport’s international network.

“This is a major milestone for our international network, delivering greater choice for passengers and unlocking new opportunities for tourism, trade and cultural links between Australia, Egypt and the broader region,” Charlton said.

“Egypt is the largest unserved African market for Australian travellers, and a Sydney service by EgyptAir is a big step forward in improving connectivity between Australia and Egypt.

“We look forward to working with EgyptAir as it progresses its plans for Sydney.”

EgyptAir chairman and CEO Captain Ahmed Adel said the new route would support demand across several traveller segments.

“Partnering with Sydney Airport is an important step in growing EgyptAir’s international network and strengthening links between Egypt, Singapore and Australia,” Adel said.

“The new service will make travel between our regions easier and support growing demand for tourism, business, education and visiting friends and relatives.

“We look forward to welcoming passengers onboard and building stronger connections between Egypt and Sydney.”

The service was announced at the El Alamein Air Show, and represents a meaningful improvement in connectivity between Australia, Southeast Asia and Africa – giving passengers access to some of Egypt’s most recognised destinations, including Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Mediterranean coastline and the country’s growing tourism centres.

Further details, including schedules, aircraft type and ticket sales, will be announced closer to launch.
