The Intrepid Foundation, the non-profit arm of Intrepid Travel, has awarded a combined $643,596 to 13 not-for-profit partners through its annual Impact Grants program.

The grants, ranging from $30,000 to $50,000, will fund projects across conservation, wildlife and animal welfare, education, equality and community building. The money comes from travellers who opt in to donate 1 per cent of their trip cost at booking, which Intrepid Travel matches. More than 7000 travellers contributed in 2026.

Partners across more than 40 countries were invited to pitch projects. Funded initiatives include a cultural heritage and learning centre in northern Tanzania, a women-led agricultural cooperative in Türkiye and marine protection zones in the Andaman Sea.

In partnership with Interrail, one €30,000 grant went to a partner within the Interrail network. Casa Caridad in Spain received it for its Espai DONA program, which provides resources and a safe space for women experiencing homelessness in Valencia.

The Travellers’ Choice grant went to the Cambodia Rural Students Trust for Project B, which will build permanent bicycle repair stations across Siem Reap so students can cycle to school. A record 2000 customers voted, while Intrepid team votes decided the other 11 winners.

Intrepid Foundation general manager Biheng Zhang said the grants allowed the foundation to provide “targeted, meaningful support” for projects important to its partners, and thanked travellers and Interrail for the result.

The Intrepid Foundation has disbursed more than $20 million to over 160 partners since 2002.
