Moscow, Sept. 29 (SANA) Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree Tuesday increasing the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces to nearly 2.44 million personnel, including more than 1.55 million service members.

The decree sets the total authorized strength at 2,441,630 personnel, including 1,550,500 service members.

The decree, published on Russia’s official legal information portal and cited by RT, took effect upon signing. It instructed the Russian government to allocate the necessary federal budget funding to the Defense Ministry to implement its provisions.

The decree repeals Decree No. 419, issued on June 12, which previously set the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces.

Putin previously increased the authorized strength of the armed forces in July, bringing the total to 2.426 million personnel, including 1.535 million service members. The increase was linked to the creation of military construction units.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which began in February 2022, continues despite international efforts to reach a settlement.
