Cover-More Travel Insurance has agreed to support the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) as a strategic partner and as a National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) Gold Sponsor.
The insurance company will also take the role of Beyond Borders Engagement Partner. Cover-More Travel Insurance will build on their advocacy with ATIA in favour of continuing the deferred sales model exemption for travel insurance.
As an ATIA Strategic Partner, Cover-More has backed the industry through the fight to protect travel agents’ ability to sell insurance at the point of booking.
“Cover-More’s support goes above and beyond,” ATIA CEO Dean Long said. “As our Strategic Partner, a Gold Sponsor of the NTIAs and Engagement Partner at Beyond Borders, they show up for our members at every point in the calendar.”
Cover-More worked closely with ATIA on advocacy relating to the deferred sales model, the regulation governing how and when add-on insurance can be sold. The current exemption, which allows travel agents to sell insurance at the point of booking, was due to expire on 5 October 2026.
Treasury has since proposed extending that exemption for a further five years, to 5 October 2031. This is a change ATIA and Cover-More both believe is a favourable outcome for members and customers alike, keeping cover available at the moment travellers commit to a trip.
As Engagement Partner, Cover-More will bring a massage station to the Beyond Borders Travel Summit on Friday, 9 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for delegates to relax between sessions.
The NTIA will take place on Saturday 10 October at the Palladium at Crown Melbourne.
