Ankara, Nov. 8 (SANA) Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pose risks to global energy markets, warning that disruptions to key shipping routes could drive up oil and gas prices and transportation costs.

Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Bayraktar said energy supply security depends on safe maritime routes, freedom of navigation and regional stability.

He warned that any disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas shipments, could affect international markets by disrupting supplies and raising freight rates, insurance costs and energy prices.

Bayraktar said global energy challenges have made energy security a matter of national security and political stability, rather than solely an economic concern.

He called for a balance between securing energy supplies, maintaining economic competitiveness and reducing carbon emissions, stressing that the transition to cleaner energy must not undermine affordability for households and industry.

The minister said Türkiye was seeking to strengthen its energy security by diversifying supply sources, transportation routes and storage capacity.

Türkiye has repeatedly raised concerns about disruptions to major maritime corridors, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, warning that instability along these routes could disrupt global supply chains and increase pressure on international markets.
