IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed two Holiday Inn hotels in Tamworth, NSW, and Rockhampton, Queensland, adding 190 rooms to its Australian portfolio.

The Tamworth property will be a refurbishment and expansion of the existing 60-room Best Western Sanctuary Inn, while the Rockhampton hotel is a new build. La Vie Hotels & Resorts will operate both.

Holiday Inn Tamworth will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment of its guestrooms, reception and restaurant, due for completion in 2027. A further 30 rooms will be built by 2029, taking the hotel to 90 rooms. The release pointed to Tamworth’s role as a commercial and events centre, home to the Tamworth Country Music Festival, with demand from corporate, government and leisure travellers.

Holiday Inn & Suites Rockhampton will have 100 guestrooms, including 40 one and two-bedroom suites. The hotel will form part of a mixed-use precinct and include 350sqm of conference and events space, a 100-seat function room and an outdoor pool. It will target business, leisure and extended-stay guests.

IHG Australasia and Pacific managing director Matt Tripolone said quality accommodation played an important role in helping regional destinations “realise economic potential”.

“Holiday Inn is one of the world’s most recognised and trusted hotel brands,” he said. “It’s a brand that feels equally at home welcoming families on holiday, business travellers and guests attending regional events, making it an ideal fit for both Tamworth and Rockhampton.”

Tripolone said both hotels would benefit from IHG’s global distribution channels, sales network and IHG One Rewards loyalty program.

La Vie Hotels & Resorts founder and chief executive Jerry Xu said the signings reflected the company’s continued growth across Australia, “from Townsville to Tamworth”, and the strength of its partnership with IHG.

“Tamworth and Rockhampton are two very different markets, but both reward a hotel that gets the basics right and knows its town,” Xu said.

Holiday Inn was established in 1952 and has more than 1260 hotels globally.
