Intrepid Travel has added more than 80 trips for 2027 as bookings within Australia climb 46 per cent and demand for neighbouring New Zealand grows 40 per cent.

The new itineraries span more than 50 destinations and cover the operator’s Walking & Trekking, Cycling, Wildlife, Explorer, Expedition, Short Breaks, Family and 18-35s categories, responding to demand for lesser-known destinations, closer-to-home adventures and experiences tailored to different travel styles.

Six new trips have been introduced across Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, with new destinations in New Zealand including Hawke’s Bay, Aoraki/Mt Cook, the area around Mt Taranaki and Whakatāne.

New regional itineraries include the seven-day Brisbane to Sydney Adventure and the seven-day North Island Adventure in New Zealand, both featuring Indigenous-led experiences.

Expanding lesser-known destinations

Intrepid is also expanding its range of lesser-known destinations, with the 14-day Hidden Gems of Thailand taking travellers beyond Chiang Mai into rural mountain villages in the north and to Koh Ngai island.

The 12-day Turkey Black Sea Adventure explores the country’s northern coast, including Safranbolu, Kastamonu, Samsun and Trabzon, while the seven-day Hiking in Picos to Europa introduces travellers to Spain’s mountain landscapes.

Family travel is another focus, with 15 new family trips added to the 2027 program. Options include a premium family adventure in Morocco, a Norway itinerary designed for families travelling with teenagers and a six-day family holiday in Taiwan.

Active and nature-based travel also feature prominently, with new walking and trekking itineraries in Spain and Georgia, cycling adventures in New Zealand and Rwanda, and wildlife experiences across South Africa, Namibia and Kenya.

Reaction to changing preferences

Intrepid Travel general manager of experiences Erica Kritikides said the new trips had been developed in response to changing traveller preferences.

“Travellers are looking for more meaningful ways to explore, whether that’s discovering lesser-known places, travelling close-to-home, getting out in nature or finding experiences that fit different life stages and interests,” she said.

“Developed in close collaboration with our local teams, our new trips respond to these evolving preferences, offering immersive experiences for travellers while helping to spread the benefits of responsible tourism more widely across local communities.”

The 2027 range also includes shorter itineraries and trips for younger, budget-conscious travellers, including Simply Northern Thailand, Simply Egypt and a 15-day 18-35s journey from Barcelona to Berlin.
