AmaWaterways has released a first look at AmaMaya, its newest Mekong ship, which will begin sailing in Vietnam and Cambodia in January 2027.
The 120-guest vessel has been designed around a contemporary take on Indochine heritage, with interiors centred on the idea of movement.
AmaMaya will operate the 7-night Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong itineraries. It carries 120 guests in 60 staterooms, the same number and type of accommodations as sistership AmaDara.
AmaWaterways CEO Catherine Powell said the Mekong “offers such a special way to discover Vietnam and Cambodia”, and that AmaMaya was built to deepen that connection.
“The ship is contemporary and refined, but you can feel the influence of Indochine throughout,” she said. “It is a beautiful setting that complements the journey and creates a sense of discovery from the moment guests step on board.”
AmaWaterways Australasia general manager Steve Richards announced last month that its successful River of Rewards program will continue with the 2027 famil taking place on the Mekong aboard AmaMaya.
“Due to popular demand by the trade, we’re going to bring River of Rewards back again next year,” Richards told Travel Weekly onboard AmaSofia on the Danube last month. “I’ve been given the green light by the US to get another brand-new ship which is going to be the AmaMaya on the Mekong River.”
Onboard, guests will find two dining venues – the Mekong Restaurant, serving cuisine with international and local influences, and The Chef’s Table, a specialty restaurant with a multi-course tasting menu. Menus will feature Southeast Asian flavours, and dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free will be accommodated.
Wellness facilities include a fitness room, sun deck pool and three massage rooms, while a dedicated Wellness Host will lead fitness and mindfulness activities.
Included shore experiences span village walks, local school visits, silk-making and rattan workshops, and market visits. Guests can tour Phnom Penh by tuk-tuk, visit the former royal capital of Oudong and take part in a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony. In Vietnam, highlights include a trishaw ride through Tan Chau and a sampan trip into the Tra Su Forest and Sanctuary in the Mekong Delta.
Charms of the Mekong guests can add a three-night Bangkok extension, while Riches of the Mekong offers a choice of a four-night Central Vietnam or three-night Bangkok extension.
