Intrepid Travel has certified under B Lab’s new global standards for B Corp Certification, becoming one of the first travel companies to meet the rigorous social and environmental requirements.

The certification lands ahead of the European Union’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, which targets greenwashing through unsubstantiated environmental claims and takes effect on 27 September. B Lab’s V2 Standards bring independent, third-party verification and objective certification procedures.

The new standards replace B Corp’s previous points-based assessment model with mandatory performance requirements across B Lab’s seven Impact Topics – including climate action, human rights, and fair work and justice, equity, diversity and inclusion – aimed at ensuring certification reflects real systems, accountability, evidence and continual improvement embedded across all business areas.

Intrepid’s certification covers 93 entities across 94 countries, including its Stay Intrepid portfolio of owned accommodation properties in Australia and Morocco. The properties formed part of the B Corp assessment for the first time, requiring Intrepid to demonstrate high standards of environmental operations in areas such as water management, waste and circular systems.

Intrepid CEO James Thornton said B Corp Certification had never been a badge for the company but a framework to support ongoing improvement.

“The new standards set a higher bar, at a time when the world needs companies to do more,” Thornton said. “We haven’t changed to meet these criteria, but we have made improvements, embedded policies deeply and ensured we have systems in place to support these across all parts of our global operations.”

Intrepid first achieved B Corp certification in 2018 and has gone on to post record financial and impact results in the years since, excluding the pandemic period, growing on average 20 per cent annually. The company has continued to invest in impact and embed responsible practices across human rights, worker policies, supplier engagement, climate advocacy and community investment, including through The Intrepid Foundation.

The certification follows a record financial performance for Intrepid in 2025, and comes as the global B Corp movement approaches 10,000 companies across 100 countries.
