It\u2019s Kit Kemp\u2019s smallest London property: three Georgian townhouses knocked together into one 44-room hotel. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the outside, it gives nothing away \u2013 plain brick, wrought iron, a residential hush.<\/p>\n<p>Step inside and Kemp\u2019s world takes over: colour, pattern, antique furniture, all of it. Small by design, and better for it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>First Impressions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The building doesn\u2019t announce itself. In a stunning residential street, it is still easy to walk straight past.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, everything changes. With only 44 rooms, it feels like like arriving at someone\u2019s home. One had floor-to-ceiling windows that let in far more light than you\u2019d expect from a townhouse, plus a thick canopy bed, antique furniture and fabrics sourced from as far afield as Mali.<\/p>\n<p>Some details recur throughout the hotel: tailor\u2019s dummies, and paintings of Peter Clark\u2019s West Highland Terriers, a nod to the hotel next door.<\/p>\n<p>Bathrooms come in granite and oak, with cast-iron tubs and Kit Kemp\u2019s own RIKRAK bath products. Breakfast in the drawing room and library is one of the best parts of the stay \u2014 relaxed, comfortable, nothing formal about it.<\/p>\n<p>Room service covers the rest of the day, and in the evening, the team will mix you a cocktail in the library: a quiet room, an honesty bar, an abstract painting watching over the fireplace.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Service<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This is where the hotel really wins. The staff are excellent \u2013 attentive, never overbearing \u2013 and the small scale makes it possible. It doesn\u2019t feel like checking in. Harrods is a five-minute walk; Harvey Nichols, Sloane Street and Brompton Cross are just as close, and the restaurants of Beauchamp Place are around the corner.<\/p>\n<p>The V&amp;A, Natural History Museum and Science Museum are all within ten minutes on foot, with the Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace a little further out. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are an easy stroll, and Buckingham Palace isn\u2019t far either.<\/p>\n<p>Knightsbridge and South Kensington tube stations are both under five minutes away, putting the West End\u2019s theatres, Piccadilly Circus and Mayfair a short, direct ride from your door.
