For a long time the difference between economy and premium economy wasn\u2019t really enough to get super excited about. It was a kind of nicer version of economy, think bigger screens and a bit more leg room.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n With its lie-down bed and privacy screen it was always business class that was considered the game-changing upgrade.<\/p>\n Well now Emirates is rewriting the rule book with a VERY significant upgrade.<\/p>\n The Middle Eastern airline has given its premium economy experience not just a face lift, but arguably a whole new limb. For the first time in premium economy history, Emirates is introducing a privacy screen between seats, and the seats themselves are electric.<\/p>\n For the first time premium economy passengers are getting something that is significantly hard to get in an airplane: privacy.<\/p>\n And this isn\u2019t just a case of sticking a screen between two existing seats.<\/p>\n The new Emirates Premium Economy cabin will have just 28 seats in a spacious 2-3-2 configuration, with up to 39 inches of seat pitch.<\/p>\n The seats also recline into a cradle position, meaning you can actually settle in without invading the space of the person behind you.<\/p>\n And then there\u2019s the electric bit: passengers can adjust their seat at the touch of a button, with dedicated settings for \u201clounge mode\u201d and \u201cmeal mode\u201d. The privacy divider can also be raised, lowered and locked into position using the seat controls.<\/p>\n Suddenly, premium economy starts to sound a lot less like economy with a bit of extra legroom.<\/p>\n There are other nice touches too. Wireless charging is being introduced for the first time, alongside USB-C charging and a phone holder built into the tray table.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a 13.3-inch 4K HDR screen for Emirates\u2019 ice entertainment system, a leather U-Dream headrest and a manually deployable leather footrest.<\/p>\n But the interesting part is still that screen. Airlines have spent years making premium economy seats wider, giving passengers more legroom and adding better food and entertainment.<\/p>\n Privacy is a different proposition altogether. It changes the feeling of the cabin. You can work without feeling like the person next to you is sitting in your inbox. You can eat without being quite so exposed to the aisle.
