Showcasing its vibrant cities and rich culinary traditions, tropical rainforests and off the beaten track experiences, Tourism Malaysia brought a taste of its more surreal side to Australian travel advisors last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two-city roadshow to Australia, held in Melbourne on 25 August and Sydney on 27 August, gave the trade an opportunity to discover emerging destinations, new air routes and a broader range of Malaysian travel experiences.<\/p>\n

More than 300 leading travel advisors and tourism representatives connected directly with Malaysian suppliers, hoteliers, airlines and tour operators at\u00a0Pullman East Melbourne and the Four Seasons Sydney.<\/p>\n

Both events included trade-only Malaysia Destination Seminars, alongside Malaysian Trade Evening sessions and networking opportunities.<\/p>\n

The Malaysian delegation comprised 20 organisations, including travel agencies, hotels and resorts, associations and Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) agents.<\/p>\n

Guests were treated to authentic Malaysian cuisine, an entertaining Batik fashion show, and the chance to win spectacular prizes thanks to the event\u2019s sponsors.<\/p>\n

Led by Tourism Malaysia Director of International Promotion Division (Americas, Europe and Oceania) Mohamad Libra Lee Haniff, the roadshow promoted Visit Malaysia 2026\u20132027, the MM2H programme and Malaysia\u2019s medical tourism offering through the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).<\/p>\n

Addressing the industry warmly in Sydney, Lee Haniff said the roadshow was an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, these initiatives reinforce Malaysia\u2019s position as sustainable, quality-rich and welcoming destination for Australian travellers and global visitors alike,\u201d Lee Haniff said.<\/p>\n

Nature-based experiences were also in the spotlight. \u201cBeyond our iconic attractions, Malaysia is also blessed to be stunning natural landscapes, from pristine to tropical rainforest, to the diverse wildlife and breathtaking marine ecosystems, making it an ideal destination for natural lovers and outdoor enthusiasts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Growing demand from Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The roadshow came as Australian visitation to Malaysia continues to rise.\u00a0As of June 2026, the destination recorded 252,086 Australian visitors, an 8.1 per cent increase compared with the same time in 2025.<\/p>\n

Tourism Malaysia Director General, Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said the roadshow provided an opportunity to build on that momentum and strengthen partnerships with the Australian trade.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralia remains one of Malaysia\u2019s key medium-haul markets, and this mission is a timely opportunity to renew partnerships and invite more Australians to rediscover Malaysia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Visit Malaysia 2026 now in full swing and continuing into 2027, we are intensifying efforts to attract high-value travellers who appreciate our diversity, hospitality, and evolving tourism experiences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Connectivity was another focus across the roadshow, with Tourism Malaysia highlighting the expansion of international air routes connecting Australia with Malaysia, including the reintroduction of British Airways\u2019 daily flights between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur from January 2027.<\/p>\n

More than a traditional holiday<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tourism Malaysia used the roadshow to promote a range of specialist segments, including medical tourism, luxury travel, sports and off-the-beaten-track adventures.<\/p>\n

The MM2H programme also featured across the two-city program, with dedicated seminars in both Melbourne and Sydney for consumers interested in longer stays and retirement opportunities in Malaysia.<\/p>\n

With its combination of culture, cuisine, connectivity and increasingly diverse travel experiences, Malaysia is looking to give Australian advisors plenty of reasons to keep the destination on their clients\u2019 radar.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne and Sydney roadshows provided a platform to turn that inspiration into stronger trade connections, as Tourism Malaysia showcased Malaysia that extends well beyond the familiar.<\/p>\n
