The trip went ahead despite several key regional leaders pulling out at the last minute, including Fiji\u2019s Sitiveni Rabuka, Vanuatu\u2019s Jotham Napat, Samoa\u2019s La\u2019auli Leuatea Schmidt, and Solomon Islands\u2019 Matthew Wale. Palau is considered a key strategic neighbour in Micronesia.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Palau Paradise Express<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Qantas launched the Palau Paradise Express in December 2024 with one weekly flight. Since then, the service has carried more than 15,400 passengers and quadrupled passenger traffic to Palau from Australia and Oceania compared with pre-COVID levels.<\/p>\n<p>The additional weekly service will run from December 2026 to the end of March 2027, departing Brisbane on Wednesday and Saturday and returning from Koror on Thursday and Sunday. The route will be operated by a Boeing 737-800, with a flight time of around six hours, and will connect across the Qantas domestic network.<\/p>\n<p>Palau is a nation of more than 300 islands in the Western Pacific, known for its coral reefs and the UNESCO-listed Rock Islands. You can now fly out on a Wednesday, get four days on the reef and be home by Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace said Qantas was working with the Federal Government and partners in Palau to encourage more Australian visitors and support local tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Palau Visitors Authority director Kadoi Ruluked welcomed the addition of the second weekly service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince Qantas took over the Palau Paradise Express in 2024, Australian visitation to Palau during our peak period has grown 107 per cent year on year,\u201d Ruluked said. \u201cThis added seasonal frequency will build on that momentum by giving travellers the flexibility to enjoy a shorter Palau getaway for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruluked said the greater connectivity supported efforts to grow tourism sustainably, delivering more opportunities for local businesses and communities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_812604\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-812604\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-812604\" alt=\"A traditional Bai longhouse in Palau.
