Destination Canada will hold its inaugural Together for Impact Virtual Summit this week on Thursday 5 November, pitching the commercial case for purposeful travel to Australian agents and operators.

The 90-minute event will be hosted by Destination Canada’s Australian Strategic Advisory Group (SAG). Destination Canada said it aimed to move the conversation about regenerative tourism from principle to practice, with ideas for building higher-value Canada itineraries and growing sales.

Destination Canada Australia managing director Julie King will open the summit, looking at why tourism’s future depends on creating value for destinations and communities as well as travellers.

Keynote speaker Kukpi7 (Chief) Frank Antoine, co-founder of Moccasin Trails, will discuss how Indigenous-led tourism can support cultural continuity, reconciliation and connection to land. Antoine is from Sťuxwtéws, one of 17 communities of the Secwépemc (Shuswap) Nation in Canada.

The centrepiece panel, Selling More Than the Destination: How Purpose Is Changing Canada Travel, will ask whether doing the right thing for destinations and communities can also be good for business. It will feature SAG members Melissa Warren of Helloworld Travel, Brett Mitchell of Intrepid Travel, Neil Rodgers of Adventure World and Dan Walker of Sno’n’Ski Holidays.

A second live session, From Canada, With Purpose: Three Stories of Tourism Creating Impact, will feature speakers from Jasper Food Tours, Churchill Wild and Niagara Parks Commission.

An on-demand program available only to summit participants will focus on growing Canada business. It will include presentations from SAG members Greg McCallum of Entire Travel Group, Casandra Foister of SkiMax Holidays and Mladen Vukic of APT Travel Group.

Further on-demand content will cover destinations from the Yukon and Manitoba to Alberta, British Columbia and Québec, with speakers from Hébergement aux Cinq Sens, Eagle Wing Whale & Wildlife Tours, The Klondike Experience, Turtle Tours, Alberta Food Tours and Burwood Distillery.

Destination Canada said attendees would come away with ideas for selling Canada throughout the year, developing longer, higher-value itineraries, incorporating Indigenous-led and community-based experiences, responding to changing traveller expectations and telling stronger stories to clients.
