Reacting to yesterday\u2019s announcement by the Dutch public broadcasting organization, NPO, that they would not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 due to the Israel\u2019s continued participation, Amnesty International\u2019s Europe Director, Steve Cockburn, said:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Dutch broadcasting body is the latest to decide not take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in protest at Israel\u2019s participation. It sends a clear message that there should be no stage provided to whitewash genocide, ethnic cleansing and apartheid against Palestinians. It also highlights the European Broadcasting Union\u2019s cowardly refusal to suspend Israel from the competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After consulting broadcasters, the NPO which oversees public broadcasting in The Netherlands, found there was insufficient support for participation, citing \u201csensitivities\u201d over Israel\u2019s participation in the competition for its decision to pull out. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
