Chiefs Tented Camps has completed the largest luxury camp ever built inside Mongena Private Game Reserve, a Big Five reserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chiefs Tented Camps created the camp to host the All Blacks\u2019 recent South African tour, Rugby\u2019s Greatest Rivalry.<\/p>\n

The camp saw 485 tents, including 320 en-suite Cottage Suites, erected on a completely undeveloped site at Mongena Private Game Reserve to accommodate more than 800 guests. Old School Group helped with the conceptualisation and execution, with assistance from Mongena\u2019s professional team.<\/p>\n

The build lands in a milestone year \u2013 2026 marks 30 years since Chiefs Tented Camps began operating in South Africa, the same year the All Blacks first competed in the inaugural Tri-Nations series against the Springboks.<\/p>\n

\u201cNearly 30 years of doing this creates a kind of muscle memory,\u201d Chiefs Tented Camps executive director and co-founder Lysta Stander said. \u201cThere is no substitute for having had boots on the ground, learning to read a site, adapting when plans change and solving problems as they happen, because they will happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

  • 900,000 litres of water trucked in, 2.7 km of electrical cable and 1.5 km of water piping laid<\/li>\n
  • 11,230 meals served and roughly 27,000 person-hours of labour<\/li>\n
  • When the tour ended, the entire camp was dismantled, and the land returned to exactly the state it had been found in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    While the Mongena build was under construction, Chiefs was simultaneously running its 15th-anniversary Namaqua Flower Beach Camp nearly 1,500 kilometres away on the Atlantic coast, a seasonal tented camp open for just one month a year, with room for only 30 guests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
