<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\nPresident Donald Trump offered Pope Leo XIV<\/a> his \u201cbest wishes\u201d and \u201clove\u201d in a short interview with reporters Oct. 14, the day after the pope\u2019s doctors announced that the pope had been diagnosed with lung cancer.<\/p>\n Speaking to reporters on the tarmac just before boarding Air Force One following a midterm rally in Bullhead City, Arizona,<\/a> Trump said, \u201cI wanna see Pope Leo get well. I hear the prognosis for that type of a problem \u2014 it\u2019s cancer, it\u2019s big stuff anytime you have cancer \u2014 but the prognosis seems to be good. I\u2019ve watched, and we just wanna wish him our love and our best wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n The president also highlighted his friendship with Pope Leo\u2019s older brother, Louis Prevost, who met with Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the White House in May 2025 shortly after Pope Leo\u2019s inauguration Mass.<\/p>\n \u201cHis brother\u2019s a friend of mine,\u201d Trump commented. \u201cHe\u2019s a fantastic guy \u2014 and his wife. You know, they\u2019re big Trump supporters. They have MAGA all over their house.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cI can say that his brother loves him a lot, loves the pope a lot. That\u2019s good, that\u2019s good enough for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Shortly after the announcement of Pope Leo\u2019s cancer diagnosis, Louis Prevost\u2019s wife, Deborah, revealed to CBS News that her husband is being treated for multiple myeloma. She did not say what stage his cancer is in but said he\u2019s currently in a clinical trial for it at a local hospital.<\/p>\n Deborah Prevost told CBS that her husband was \u201cfirst diagnosed in 2017 but was able to maintain it at a \u2018very low level\u2019 after undergoing treatment in 2019 that included stem cell treatment and a clinical trial.\u201d She said he \u201cfell out of remission\u201d three months ago.<\/p>\n She said that Louis had spoken with his brother prior to his surgery. \u201cHe called to let us know what would be happening,\u201d she said. \u201cWe keep praying, keeping spirits up for both of them.\u201d<\/p>\n In the first medical update provided by the Vatican since the late-night revelation of the pope\u2019s lung cancer diagnosis, the pope\u2019s doctors said Oct. 14 that the pope\u2019s \u201crecovery is proceeding as expected\u201d and the pope has begun walking around his hospital room.<\/p>\n According to Vatican News, post-operation tests will be conducted on the removed tissue in the coming days.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
