Photo: Lucas Kschischang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>The point of the trip\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cFor us, what makes it worth is where we can have the most impact,\u201d\u00a0G Adventures managing director Australia, New Zealand and Asia, Sean Martin\u00a0told\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Travel Weekly<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cCambodia,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0had conflict\u00a0this year,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been an unlucky country for\u00a0a very long\u00a0time. And we felt that this event is that big and can have that much of an impact.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In fact, following GX Jordan in 2025, Poon Tip says the destination saw an increase in tourism of 134 per cent. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Its figures like these that he says make it clear that travel can be a \u201ctransformational tool\u201d for the building of the future of Cambodia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cWe have the ability and the access now that we can be an instrumental part of that rebuilding. Photo: Lucas Kschischang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tourism with a return<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Martin is clear that getting this right requires more than putting a\u00a0mandatory\u00a0community experience into a brochure.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cIt takes a real skill to design trips that combine both \u2013 combine the big highlights, but also ensure while you\u2019re doing that, the local communities do benefit.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">G Adventures does not pretend every project succeeds.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cWe will go to communities. We will start projects. They don\u2019t always work,\u201d Martin says. \u201cBut when they do, which we\u2019ve seen in the last couple of days, the impact is just huge.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The company says it holds its buying and product teams accountable for ensuring money stays in communities and that local people\u00a0actually want\u00a0to\u00a0participate.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Because the fundamental question is not whether tourists enjoyed themselves.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cAre the locals happy that tourism exists? Are the locals involved in tourism conversations?
