Extending the Mission\u2019s crucial work for the next two years reinforces the international community\u2019s interest in justice and accountability for gross human rights violations in the country, including crimes against humanity. This is a clear sign of recognition that the government\u2019s repressive apparatus is still in place while opacity and impunity remain the norm.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote is-lined\">\n<p>We welcome this decision to continue the scrutiny over the ongoing human rights crisis in Venezuela. The Mission\u2019s investigation, reporting, and evidence-based recommendations are a key tool for scrutinizing the government\u2019s long-standing policy of repression. Its victim and justice-centred mandate can play a crucial role in finding solutions for accountability and the non-repetition of the suffering that people have endured for long over a decade.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/amr53\/1478\/2026\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/amr53\/1478\/2026\/en\/\">We remind the Venezuelan authorities<\/a> and the international community that victims\u2019 rights to truth, justice, reparations, and guarantees of non-recurrence must be front and centre in all efforts to ensure a future where the rule of law and human rights are fully respected in Venezuela. We also continue calling for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/amr53\/1510\/2026\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">immediate release<\/a> of all those arbitrarily detained for political reasons, for all repressive laws and regulations to be repealed, for the end to political persecution, and the full dismantling of the state\u2019s policy of repression.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote is-lined\">\n<p>\u201cVictims\u2019 rights to truth, justice, reparations, and guarantees of non-recurrence must be front and centre in all efforts to ensure a future where the rule of law and human rights are fully respected in Venezuela.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><cite>Ana Piquer, Amnesty International\u2019s Americas director.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-background-information-nbsp\"><strong>Background information<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela (FFM) is a mechanism created by the UN in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/42\/25\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/42\/25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2019<\/a> to exercise scrutiny and investigate gross human rights violations in Venezuela. Its work has been highly regarded, and its continuity deemed necessary, so its mandate has been renewed in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/45\/20\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/45\/20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2020<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/51\/29\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/51\/29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/HRC\/RES\/57\/36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024<\/a> for two-year periods.
