(OSV News\/courtesy X, @PGabRomanelli)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>        <!-- content --><\/p>\n<p>The pastor of Gaza\u2019s only Catholic parish revealed that Pope Leo XIV sent a personal condolence message following an Israeli missile strike that killed five people, including a Christian mother and daughter.<\/p>\n<p>In his daily video update posted to YouTube Oct. 4, Father Gabriel Romanelli, pastor of Holy Family Parish, read the pope\u2019s \u201cbeautiful message\u201d he received earlier, just one day after the missile strike that killed Maysa Khader Ibrahim Abu Daoud and her daughter, Mary Hafez Michel Najjar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood morning, Father Gabriele. Ever since hearing the painful news about Maysa and Mary, I\u2019ve been praying for them, their families, and everyone in Gaza. \u2018How long, Lord?&#8217;\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thedialog.org\/tag\/pope-leo-xiv\/\">Pope Leo<\/a> wrote, echoing a lament from Psalm 13.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-rec td-a-rec-id-content_inline  tdi_2 td_block_template_1\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-331\"><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MzMxLDAsNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/cdow.org\/find-a-job-opportunity\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thedialog.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/14135712\/CDOW.HR_.Sept_.2026.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThank you for standing by the parish and so many people who only want to live in peace. (OSV News\/courtesy X, @PGabRomanelli)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He added that the deaths of two women were \u201ca painful loss for their families, the Church, and the parish community, and add to the growing number of martyrs among the Palestinian people in Gaza, who continue to endure death, destruction, and suffering on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mother and daughter were laid to rest hours after their deaths, following a funeral at St. Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>In an Oct. 3 statement, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem prayed for their eternal rest, as well as \u201can end to the war and bombardment and for the protection of civilians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay a just peace prevail, so that the people of Gaza may live without fear for their children and loved ones.
