Washington, Sept. 29 (SANA)<\/strong> U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth<\/a> has signed a directive to mobilize Pentagon capabilities to protect November\u2019s congressional midterm elections from foreign threats and interference.
In a release dated Monday, the department said U.S. Cyber Command and combat support agencies would prioritize advanced intelligence<\/a> and cyber capabilities to identify and counter attempts by foreign actors to interfere in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell <\/a>said Cyber Command and defense intelligence teams would work with federal, state and local partners to protect voting systems and identify foreign influence efforts while safeguarding fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n

Gen. Joshua Rudd, who heads both U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency, said the two organizations regularly work together to counter foreign cyber activity, including attempts to interfere in U.S. elections.<\/p>\n

The Nov. 3 elections will decide all 435 seats in the House of Representatives <\/a>and about one-third of the seats in the Senate.<\/p>\n

Separately, Hegseth faces resistance from some Republican senators over a reported $1.5 trillion Pentagon funding request for next year. Senators cited concerns about the Iran war, senior military dismissals and his engagement with Congress, according to Semafor, as reported by The Independent.<\/p>\n
