Passengers travelling through Sydney Airport have been warned to allow extra time as two separate strikes get underway today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Up to 400 security workers walked off the job at 7.30am on Thursday, with the two-hour strike expected to cause delays at security across the airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is going to be disruptive, that\u2019s the nature of industrial action, but the fault here is right at the feet of Qantas and Sydney Airport,\u201d TWU national secretary Michael Kaine said.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve got to pay their fair share so those workers can get a fair cut.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sydney Airport has warned passengers to expect delays at security across every terminal today and to allow extra time for their journey.<\/p>\n

The security strike coincides with a separate 24-hour walkout involving Qantas freight and QantasLink ground workers.<\/p>\n

The Transport Workers\u2019 Union (TWU) said workers are calling for improved pay and greater job security, with Qantas workers seeking pay and conditions in line with industry standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to send a message to Qantas and to Sydney Airport that all those millions that are getting in profit, they need a bit back here for fair pay, for secure jobs, so these workers can support themselves and their families,\u201d Kaine said.<\/p>\n

Qantas has said it does not expect the ground workers\u2019 industrial action to disrupt passenger services, with contingency measures in place.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
