Over 80 per cent of Australians with super want to spend part of their retirement travelling around Australia, according to research by YouGov for Australian Retirement Trust (ART), one of Australia\u2019s largest super funds.<\/strong><\/p>\n Nearly 70 per cent of the Australians said holidays or travel are essential or important to the retirement they would like to have.<\/p>\n \u201cAustralians want the freedom to enjoy their time, explore the country and stay connected with family and friends,\u201d Australian Retirement Trust executive general manager of advocacy and impact Anne Fuchs said. \u201cFor many people that means seeing more of Australia at a slower pace, with the flexibility to decide where the road takes them.\u201d<\/p>\n Nearly half of the research participants want to visit coastal towns and beaches (49 per cent) and to travel slowly with no fixed schedule (46 per cent).<\/p>\n Despite having a clear picture of what they desire, nine in ten Australians with super see at least one barrier to achieving their retirement goals.<\/p>\n The most common concerns raised are rising cost of living (65 per cent), insufficient retirement savings (54 per cent), and health issues (42 per cent).<\/p>\n \u201cPeople can tell you what they want retirement to look like, but far fewer can tell you what it will cost,\u201d Fuchs added. \u201cOne in four told us they don\u2019t know how much they will be able to spend in retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n Over 1,000 adults participated in the survey. YouGov conducted the survey between 27 July and 1 August 2026. YouGov carried out the survey online.
