Tickets for a new direct service between Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) and Nadi, Fiji, go on sale today, with Fiji Airways becoming the latest international carrier to join the airport\u2019s 24-hour global gateway.<\/strong><\/p>\n As speculated in Travel Weekly earlier this month<\/a>, from March next year, Fiji Airways will operate three weekly flights between Western Sydney and Fiji, giving Sydneysiders a new direct connection to the popular holiday destination.<\/p>\n WSI CEO Simon Hickey said the partnership would strengthen Sydney\u2019s ties with a \u201cbeloved Pacific neighbour\u201d and give Western Sydney\u2019s multicultural communities greater choice and flexibility in how they fly.<\/p>\n \u201cMore than 70 per cent of our global city\u2019s growing Fijian population call Western Sydney home, and we\u2019re delighted to be delivering a new, seamless service for them to connect with family and friends,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cLast year alone, more than 400,000 passengers travelled between New South Wales and Fiji, demonstrating the immense popularity of the warm, welcoming leisure destination and the more than 300 islands visitors can explore.\u201d<\/p>\n Hickey added that the overnight timing \u2013 departing WSI at 11.55pm and arriving in Nadi just before 5am \u2013 would suit both business travellers seeking productivity gains and holidaymakers looking to maximise long weekends and connect swiftly to boat and ferry services.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King welcomed the announcement, noting Fiji\u2019s status as a top 10 international destination for Australians.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s exciting that there will be another travel option for Aussies, from Western Sydney\u2019s new global gateway to the world,\u201d she said. \u201cBula Fiji Airways \u2013 it\u2019s so good to have you boarding soon at Western Sydney International.\u201d<\/p>\n Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Paul Scurrah said the route was a natural next step for the airline and an opportunity to serve one of the country\u2019s fastest-growing regions.<\/p>\n \u201cWestern Sydney is also home to a significant Fijian and Pacific Islander community, so for us this is about more than tourism \u2013 it\u2019s about making it easier for our own people to stay connected to family and home,\u201d he said. \u201cWe look forward to welcoming even more Australians onboard the world\u2019s happiest airline.\u201d<\/p>\n To mark the new route, Fiji Airways is offering introductory return fares from Western Sydney to Fiji from $639, available for booking until 23 September at FijiAirways.com or through participating travel agents.
