Malaysia Airlines will move to daily services between Kuala Lumpur and Brisbane from 25 October 2026, up from six weekly flights, as part of a wider capacity push across its Asia-Pacific network announced this week.

The airline’s parent, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), confirmed the increase alongside additional capacity to Fukuoka and Surabaya, and the return of Kuala Lumpur–Busan services after nearly three decades, at a briefing in Kuala Lumpur on 4 September.

MAG group president and chief executive officer Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the Brisbane increase would be accompanied by the deployment of the airline’s Airbus A330neo on the route, replacing older equipment on the corridor.

“We are continuing to grow with purpose, strengthening our network where there is demand, reconnecting established markets and expanding into new ones, while investing in the capabilities that support our airlines and customers,” Nasaruddin said.

The Brisbane increase forms part of a broader capacity lift across three existing MAG routes. Fukuoka moves from five weekly flights to daily operations from 1 December, building on the route’s resumption in September following a 20-year gap – with Malaysia Airlines remaining the only carrier flying Kuala Lumpur–Fukuoka nonstop. Surabaya gains two additional weekly frequencies from 1 November, lifting services from 14 to 16 per week.

Brisbane has been building toward daily service in stages since Malaysia Airlines relaunched the route in late 2025, having stepped up from five to six weekly flights earlier this year ahead of this final increase to daily from October.

The changes come alongside MAG’s confirmation that Malaysia Airlines will resume flights to Busan from 2 December 2026, operating four times weekly on Boeing 737-8 aircraft, and that Firefly will launch its first-ever China route, to Kunming, with dates yet to be confirmed. MAG also announced a new in-flight catering facility near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, targeting completion in the fourth quarter of 2028 and aiming to produce approximately 50,000 meals daily.
