Holland America Line has debuted a redesigned Ocean Bar aboard Oosterdam, the first venue overhaul to roll out as part of the line’s Holland America Evolution fleet-wide refresh.

The reimagined space – inspired by the golden age of ocean travel – brings a new stage, refreshed lounge seating and a reworked layout designed to draw guests closer to the entertainment. Programming on the new stage will span regional soloists, pianists, Vivace Strings performances and late-night cabaret, while the bar itself has been relocated to strengthen the connection between guests and performers.

Michael Stendebach, Holland America Line’s senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division, said the redesign drew on the qualities that have made sea travel enduring – elegance, occasion and connection – with design cues taken from Rotterdam V.

The venue’s Art Deco-inspired look features custom furnishings with details drawn from vintage travel trunks and luggage, including leather accents. In keeping with the line’s sustainability push, existing lounge furniture will be reupholstered using fabrics made from recycled materials rather than replaced outright.

Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are the first of six Vista Class and Signature Class ships to receive the Evolution treatment, which Holland America is calling the largest fleet update in its 153-year history. The line is investing more than US$500 million (AU$694 million) across the six ships, covering refreshed public spaces, expanded venues and additional staterooms and suites.
