The Deeley brothers – Andrew, Mark and Brendon – have acquired Breakas Beach Resort in Port Vila, Vanuatu, with ownership officially transferring to the Australian family’s Vision Hotels group today.

Located on the picturesque Pango Peninsula, just minutes from Port Vila, Breakas has established a strong reputation as an intimate tropical beachfront retreat, renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and distinctive Pacific character.

The adults-only property’s 63 garden and beach bungalows front one of Efate’s best surf breaks, and its 22-metre infinity pool has made it one of the most photographed resorts in Vanuatu.

The Deeley brothers said they were delighted to be taking ownership of the property and were looking forward to building on the resort’s strong foundations while embracing the opportunity to create an exciting future for the business.

“We are incredibly excited to be taking ownership of Breakas and growing our contribution to the Vanuatu community. This is a very special property in a truly beautiful part of the world, and we see enormous potential for its future,” they said in a statement.

“Our intention is to respect what guests and the local community already love about the resort while bringing our own energy, ideas and a significant financial investment to the property. We want to build on its reputation and will ensure it continues to be a destination that people love coming back to.”

Next chapter begins 

The brothers said their focus would be on working closely with the resort’s existing team, local suppliers, tourism partners and the wider Vanuatu community as they begin the next chapter of the property.

“We recognise the role a resort such as this plays within the local community and more widely, our family’s important role in the development of Vanuatu. We are committed to working with the people of Vanuatu and supporting local employment, businesses and the wonderful community of this special country.”

The acquisition follows a pattern for Vision Hotels, led by the brothers who have built a reputation over 15 years managing around 20 hotel businesses across Australia and the Pacific. In September 2023 the pair bought Vanuatu’s Iririki Island Resort & Spa, installing family members – Brendon’s brother Andrew and his wife Karen – as general managers and later closing the resort’s casino on moral grounds.

Late in 2024, Vision Hotels also acquired and “resurrected” Fiji’s much-loved Beachcomber Island Resort, backing a FJ$10 million (AU$6.8 million) renovation and expansion. That project – including a new kitchen, refreshed menu and 40 additional bures lifting capacity from 50 to 90 rooms – is aimed at repositioning the 1950s-era resort as a four-star destination while keeping its castaway-island character intact.

Vision Hotels’ broader Australian portfolio includes Hobart’s Allurity Hotel, the newly opened Hotel Tropiq in Cairns, the Adelaide Paringa and Barossa Valley’s The Wine Vine.

Further details on the Breakas takeover, including any renovation plans or investment figures, are yet to be confirmed.
