Cairns Airport celebrated the graduation of over 1,000 students from a major local training provider, Cairns Aviation Skills Centre (CASC).

The milestone was marked with a special ceremony at the aviation centre on Thursday when a class of 22 students officially completed their course, bringing the school’s graduate numbers over four figures for the first time.

Cairns Aviation Skills Centre, through training provider Aviation Australia, offers three specialist courses aimed at fast-tracking students into aircraft maintenance engineering: Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics), Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Mechanical) and Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance, a school-to-work pathway which readies students for further qualifications.

Students may be eligible for funding support through the Queensland Government’s Career Start and Career Boost programs, with aircraft maintenance engineering categorised as a high-priority industry.

“This milestone truly illustrates the value of having a dedicated, hands-on training provider right here in Cairns,” Aviation Australia business manager for North Queensland Chris Pigott, said. “Our graduates obtain skills that are in high demand.”

Aviation Australia also delivers training in remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) and emerging aviation technologies, helping prepare the workforce needed to support both today’s industry and the evolving aviation sector of tomorrow.

“Cairns’ Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry contributes more than $36 million annually to the local economy,” Cairns Airport chief executive officer Richard Barker said. “Globally, the sector is growing at a rapid rate, particularly in Asia, right on our doorstep.”

Flight enthusiasts can learn more about CASC on Aviation Australia’s website.
