Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour has appointed accomplished hospitality leader, Peta Ruiter as its new general manager, effective as of 26 October 2026.
Ruiter succeeds Reto Borer, who has relocated to Australia and brings more than 25 years in hospitality to the role.
Her international career has included senior leadership positions at Conrad Seoul, Hilton Tokyo Odaiba and Hilton Pattaya, alongside general management of the 602-room DoubleTree by Hilton Seoul Pangyo Hotel & Residences in South Korea, where she oversaw the opening and early operations of the dual-property development.
Ruiter also established Hilton’s first integrated commercial cluster in Japan, based in Okinawa, and played a key leadership role in the conversion and repositioning of Hotel Nikko Tokyo to Hilton Tokyo Odaiba.
At Conrad Seoul, Ruiter contributed to the property’s luxury repositioning, strengthening guest experiences, service standards and food and beverage offerings, supporting its subsequent Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star recognition.
“Peta has a strong commercial perspective alongside a genuine understanding of luxury hospitality, and I am looking forward to the fresh ideas and energy she will bring to further enrich Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour and its team,” vice president Operations, Pacific – Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems David Fraser said.
Ruiter said she was delighted to join the property and return to luxury hospitality.
“Having spent much of my career working internationally, I’m excited to bring that experience to Auckland. For me, luxury hospitality has always been about people, genuine connections and the thoughtful details that make an experience memorable,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside the team, embracing Sofitel’s French art de vivre and the warmth of New Zealand hospitality, and building on what makes this hotel special.”
