Rex has suspended two regional flight routes, citing low demand and rising fuel cost.

The airline has cancelled its flights to Port Macquarie and Orange from the 25th October with no return date in the diary.

The airline said low passenger interest and the rising cost of aviation fuel since the situation in the Middle East made the flight commercially unviable.

“This decision is part of the optimisation of Rex’s schedule with the ongoing situation in the Middle East affecting all airlines globally,” a spokesperson said.

“Both destinations continue to be served by another carrier.”

Nationals MP Alison Penfold expressed concern that the loss of service could lead to increased prices to those in the region.

“I sincerely hope we see Rex return to Port Macquarie sooner rather than later,” she said.

The news comes just days after Virgin Australia told advisors it would be lifting fares and cutting seats to recoup losses.

Rex has been owned by US aviation group Air T Inc. since December 18, 2025, following a restructuring approved by the Federal Court of Australia.
