kabarsula Italian airports ramp up expansion as Pisa inaugurates new arrivals terminal bandar SLOT INDONESIA
Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport has inaugurated a new 7,100 sqm arrivals terminal – the first of three phases in an €80 million (AU$131 million) expansion and refurbishment program due to finish in 2028.
Operator Toscana Aeroporti, which also runs Florence Airport, is funding the project in full and says it is the largest investment in Pisa’s history. Southern Cone Foundation holds a stake of more than 60 per cent in Toscana Aeroporti. That foundation is associated with Argentine businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, whose airport investment group has built a substantial international airport portfolio.
The Pisa new building includes a 300kW rooftop solar system and still needs testing and commissioning before it enters service. Once arrivals move across, the existing 8,280 sqm terminal will be converted to departures only, separating passenger flows.
The program also includes new food and retail outlets, and the completed airport is expected to handle between six million and seven million passengers a year. Toscana Aeroporti chief executive Roberto Naldi described the terminal as the first step in a project that will progressively change the face of the airport.
Rome Fiumicino upgrade

Elsewhere, Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) is pursuing a €9 billion (AU$14.7 billion) development plan for Rome Fiumicino, aimed at accommodating about 100 million passengers a year by 2046, up from 51.3 million in 2025. It comprises €5 billion for new works, including a new terminal with 76 gates and a fourth runway, and €4 billion for upgrading existing infrastructure. ADR says the plan will be funded without public money.
The plan follows the May 2025 completion of Fiumicino’s Terminal 3 revamp, a four-year project worth more than €250 million (AU$409 million) that lifted arrivals capacity by 30 per cent.
New Milan terminal
At Milan Bergamo, operator SACBO has inaugurated an expanded departures terminal, a €55 million (AU$90 million) project that added a 7,500 sqm security and departures area with 14 security lanes and two new non-Schengen gates. SACBO says its wider development plan has been worth about €300 million (AU$491 million) since 2020.
The new building covers 7,100 square metres and has a 300 kW photovoltaic system. The existing 8,280 square metre terminal will be converted to departures.
