Qatar Airways has unveiled its latest premium inflight dining offerings and onboard innovations at an exclusive media event at Woodcut, Crown Sydney, on Thursday (8 October).
The event brought together media and industry guests for a first look at new premium menu offerings developed in partnership with acclaimed Australian chef Ross Lusted, alongside a new cocktail and mocktail range crafted by Italian mixologist Lorenzo Antinori.
Guests were also treated to a demonstration of Qatar Airways’ Starlink inflight connectivity, including a live video call with cabin crew aboard an aircraft.
New CCO’s Sydney debut
The airline used the occasion to introduce its incoming chief customer officer, Calum Laming, who officially takes up the role on 1 November.
Speaking at the event, Laming highlighted the importance of the Australian market to Qatar Airways and reflected on his 34-year career in aviation, which began working in an airline call centre while he was still studying.
“I started on the front line, and it’s kind of shaped everything I’ve done because it taught me that every customer has a story, every single person’s different, and every interaction matters,” he said.
Laming, who revealed he had visited Sydney 172 times, said he was excited to join the airline and build on its reputation for exceptional customer experiences.
“Australia is a massively important market for us, so it’s great to be here,” he said.
“There’s a lot to come for Qatar Airways, that I’m sure of. We remain completely focused on delivering exceptional customer experiences.”
Starlink takes centre stage
Technology was another major focus of the showcase, with Qatar Airways highlighting its investment in Starlink satellite internet connectivity.
One presenter described inflight connectivity as no longer simply a luxury, but an essential part of the modern passenger experience.
“Starlink on board isn’t necessarily a nice to have. It’s a need to have,” guests were told.
Laming described the technology as a “game changer”, particularly for passengers looking to stream entertainment during long-haul flights.
The airline also staged a live video call with cabin crew aboard an aircraft to demonstrate the connectivity available to passengers in the air.
Premium dining gets an upgrade
The event also put Qatar Airways’ premium culinary offering in the spotlight, with guests invited to sample new menu creations developed in partnership with acclaimed Australian chef Ross Lusted.
The dining experience was complemented by a new cocktail and mocktail range crafted by Italian mixologist Lorenzo Antinori, showcasing the airline’s focus on elevating its onboard food and beverage experience.
Hosted at Lusted’s Woodcut restaurant at Crown Sydney, the event brought together the airline’s latest developments in hospitality and technology.
The showcase also reinforced Qatar Airways’ commitment to the Australian market, where it has operated since 2009, and its ambition to continue investing in premium passenger experiences.
