Arriving at Pinctada, the reception team set a warm tone from the outset. A host greeted us with a broad smile and a thorough rundown of the property, helping me settle in quickly. Check-in was relaxed and unhurried, in keeping with Broome’s easygoing pace.

Location: 9/10

Set in Cable Beach, just a short walk from the sand and around 10 minutes from the heart of Broome by taxi, Pinctada is perfectly placed for those wanting a peaceful base without sacrificing access to the town’s best pearl shops, restaurants and galleries.

Rooms: 7/10

The rooms are elegant, generously proportioned and thoughtfully styled, with the property clearly investing in an ongoing program of renovations and upgrades. Our second-floor room, ahead of its refresh, still impressed with its private balcony, crisp clean linens, timber flooring and slate-tiled bathroom, plus a checked green rug, stylish lamps and ample wardrobe storage. A safe and quality toiletries rounded out the details.

Facilities: 8/10

From the pool with its rattan lounge chairs and striped textiles to the boab-shaded courtyards, the grounds make relaxing easy. The gym has recently been upgraded with new equipment, and a pay-per-use laundry service (from $5) adds practicality. The on-site boutique, stocking artisan scarves, ceramics and bowls, is well worth a browse.

Breakfast is a simple self-service spread with T2 teas, coffee and an à la carte menu of pastries. Dinner is where the kitchen shines – homemade pasta and gnocchi, beautiful salads and beautiful seafood options too, all served with genuine warmth by the Italian waitstaff.

Staff throughout were warm and attentive, from the smiling reception team to a hotel-arranged taxi driver who doubled as an impromptu local guide, sharing tips on the best pearls, restaurants and gifts in town.

Pinctada blends elegant, evolving design with genuinely warm service, offering an easygoing yet stylish base for exploring Broome. With a prime Cable Beach location, inviting grounds and a kitchen that excels at dinner, it’s easy to see why this property continues to earn such strong marks from guests. Options are still limited along this stretch of coast, and Pinctada stands out as one of the best hotels on Cable Beach, perfect for exploring The Kimberley and its wider region.
