Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel and Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum have officially opened in downtown Nashville, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring children who have benefited from her Imagination Library.

The hotel, created in partnership with Dolly Parton and Herschend, has 240 rooms and suites. It also houses SongTeller Café, live entertainment, Parton’s Live – a celebration of her music and performance legacy – and Jolene’s, a live music venue on the top floor inspired by one of her best-known songs.

The museum, created by Dolly Parton Productions, opens on January 19, 1946, the night Dolly was born. It then moves through her childhood in the Great Smoky Mountains, her early performing days, her rise through the Opry stages and her emergence as a global music star and Hollywood icon. Themes include family, fashion, film and television, philanthropy and faith.

Hotel general manager Shannon Foster said: “Dolly’s greatest legacy may be the way she has made people feel – seen, welcomed, inspired and connected. That is the spirit we hope guests feel the moment they walk into SongTeller.”

Museum executive director Rebecca Seaver said the project took “countless hours, hard decisions, loss and a great deal of heart” to complete, and called it one of the most meaningful experiences of her life.

Dolly was closely involved in both projects, from reviewing details and sharing memories to making creative decisions.

Design, production and project management studio AOA was the creative and production partner on the museum and project manager for the hotel. For the museum, it worked directly with Dolly, Rachel Parton George, Seaver and Dolly’s creative director Steve Summers. On the hotel, it worked with Herschend to manage the design team and construction schedule.

A museum panel on opening day featured Summers and AOA chief creative officer and co-founder Tom Acomb, who discussed the creative vision and the experience of working with Dolly.
