Airports across Australia will mark Airport Safety Week from 12-16 October, with the Australian Airports Association (AAA) leading the annual initiative under the theme Your Influence Matters. Every Action. Every Conversation. Every Airport.
The week focuses on the everyday actions, behaviours and conversations that support safe airport operations, with participating airports given access to daily activities, webinars and practical initiatives – including the National FOD Walk – to engage teams and airport communities.
AAA acting chief executive Natalie Heazlewood said safety was fundamental to every aspect of airport operations.
“Safety is the number one priority for Australia’s airports, every day,” she said. “Airport Safety Week provides an important opportunity to reinforce that commitment and recognise the role every person working across an airport plays in maintaining a strong and positive safety culture.
“A strong safety culture depends on ongoing attention, open communication, speaking up and a commitment to continuous improvement.”
Heazlewood added that safety was shaped by thousands of decisions and interactions across airports every day.
“Whether it is raising a concern, supporting a colleague, sharing information or taking the time to get the small things right, every action matters,” she said.
Airport Safety Week has been delivered annually by the AAA for more than a decade. The AAA represents more than 340 airports and aerodromes and 150 corporate members.
