Trafalgar has revamped its river cruise group policy to give Australian and New Zealand travel agents a sharper competitive edge.
The move comes as research from Grand View Research/MRFR in 2025 showed that global river cruising is projected to triple in size by 2035 and outpace ocean cruise growth.
The company designed the new policy to maximise commercial returns and streamline the booking process. The enhanced policy introduces greater flexibility, lower risk allocation options, and expanded full-ship charter opportunities across Trafalgar’s river portfolio.
“River cruising represents one of the most lucrative growth opportunities in our region,” TTC Tour Brands senior vice president of sales in Oceania Andrew Young said. “By offering sophisticated vessels, standout itineraries, and now an even more agent-friendly group policy, we’re making it easier for trade partners to turn group interest into high-margin bookings.”

The enhancements
Trafalgar has simplified group space holds into two clear streams to accommodate varying stages of client commitment.
- Soft Allocation (No Financial Commitment): Holds pricing at time of quotation based on cabin category. Space is subject to availability and confirmed upon receipt of a standard AU/NZ$350 per person guest deposit.
- Hard Allocation (Guaranteed Space): A deposit of AU/NZ$800 per cabin exclusively blocks space. Deposits are fully refundable up to 12 months prior to departure, except suites. Unsold cabins are released at the 12-month mark.
Under the updated policy, group bookings – minimum eight or 10 guests depending on departure – unlock tailored incentives, including:
- One FOC twin-share place for every group of eight or 10 guests.
- Flexible Savings: A choice between an exclusive AU/NZ$200 per person group discount OR the active in-market tactical offer.
- Bonus Value: Access to exclusive Group Amenity Points.
Trafalgar is also expanding its whole-ship charter offerings for agents handling high-net-worth groups, corporate incentives or affinity travel.
“A full buyout offers complete exclusivity – from bespoke dining and shore excursions to branded digital itineraries,” Young added. “With net pricing, flexible payment structures, and dedicated support from our local Group Specialists, charters deliver a smooth, high-value solution for milestone celebrations, executive retreats, and special interest, incentive or corporate rewards groups.”
