Viking announced it has taken delivery of its newest river ship in Egypt, the Viking Sekhmet, with the delivery ceremony taking place at Massara shipyard in Cairo.

The cruise line built Viking Sekhmet, which can host 82 guests in 41 outside staterooms, specifically for the Nile. Viking Sekhmet features elegant Scandinavian design like her identical sister ships, Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor, Viking Amun and Viking Thoth, including a distinctive square bow and an indoor and outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

The new ship will sail the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, as well as the new 12-day Total Eclipse on the Nile itinerary in 2027. During both itineraries, guests begin with a three-night stay at a first-class hotel in Cairo, where they can visit iconic sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.

“The Nile has connected people with the history and culture of Egypt for thousands of years, and it continues to be a destination that inspires curious travellers,” Viking president and chief executive officer Leah Talactac said. “With the arrival of the elegant Viking Sekhmet, we are pleased to offer even more opportunities for curious travellers to explore Egypt in Viking comfort.”

About a month ago, Viking also took delivery of river ship Viking Ptah in Egypt with Virtuoso’s Michael Londregan named as it’s godfather. In addition, Flight Centre Travel Group’s head of premium leisure and independents, Danielle “Dani” Galloway, has been named godmother of the Viking Sjofn.
